N. York-Whangarei Telephone Call
For 15 minutes at the New Year, the radio-telephone linked Mr and Mrs W. A. Griffiths, of Otaika, with their daughter, Mrs Mary Gol, of New X ork. Reception was as clear as if each party had been on neighbouring phones. The call came through at 3 p.m. New Zealand time which was 10.30 at night in New York during the record snow storm which dislocated traffic there. Mrs Gol. who married an American serviceman during the war, went to New York two years ago. She is very nappy there and likes the American people and life in the big city. Mrs Gol. who was well-known in the Whangarei district, had a daughter on December 1.
