Avert General Dock Hold-Up

SYDNEY. Sat. (11 a.m.)—A general paralysis of Sydney’s shipyards and docks was averted when the executive of the Sydney branch of the Ship Painters and Dockers’ Union decided against extension of the dispute over wages.

The executive, however, endorsed a strike of about 250 members employed by the Union Steam Ship Company which began last night in support of wage demands. In Melbourne’s ship repair yards 700 members of the union went on strike yesterday.

Repairs to the Antarctic research ship Wyatt Earp will probably be delayed by the strike. The strike in thq Union Steam Ship Company's yard will hold up repair and maintenance work on five overseas ships and liners, the Aorangi and Monowai, and the freighters Wairuna, Waitomo and Kini.

Many ships will be tied up, especially in Melbourne, unless there is an early settlement.
