U.S. Naval Exercises In lonian Sea
LONDON, Fri. (10 a.m.).—A United States naval squadron, consisting of the aircraft-carrier Midway, three cruisers ,and several destroyers, is exercising in the lonian Sea. An official announcement to this effect was made in Athens today. It added that the manoeuvres would continue until January 16. In Washington the United States Nacy announced that four of its powerful fleet-type submarines are being supplied to Turkey as part of the United States programme to strengthen Turkey against the Soviet. The United States has about 180 submarines in its operating and reserve fleets.
