Action
British troops used air support to drive off the Arabs attacking the Jewish settlements, says an official statement from Jerusalem. The British also used light artillery and mortars. Spitfires were used, mainly for reconnaissance, says the British United Press correspondent. It is reported that British artillery destroyed several houses across the border in Syria. The communique said there were no British casualties. The British United Press correspondent says the Arab “expeditionary force” is reported to number between 1000 and 2000 men. Other reports say there were 600 Arabs in the attacks, which were aimed at cutting off 12,000 Jewish settlers living in an isolated corner of north-east-ern Palestine.
