Barnes Starts On South Island Tour
AUCKLAND. Fri. (P.A.)—The president of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union (Mr H. Barnes) left by air today for Wellington. He is going to South Island ports to discuss union policy with each branch of the union. His tour is likely to take a fortnight. One matter expected to be discussed is the forthcoming ballot at all ports to select a national secretary of the union. The present secretary (Mr T. Hill) addressed a stop-work meeting of Auckland watersiders yesterday The other candidate (Mr J. E. Napier, of Wellington) is expected to address Auckland watersiders next week. ~
