Airport Locations For Short Journeys
WELLINGTON, Fri. (P.A.)—‘’Plane travel in overseas countries is most comfortable,” said Mr D. H. Todd, chairman of the Todd Motors group, recounting his experiences while on a trip abroad. ‘‘However, in places where airports are some distance irom the centres of population, it is easier to travel distances of 200 to 500 miles by train. “Railway stations generally are in the centres of the cities and one can, with little delay, board a train and, travelling in a sleeper, be at one’s destination early next morning. “This applies particularly in the United States. “If we in New Zealand are to encourage short-distance plane travel, we must have airports close to our cities.”
In two of the most prosperous countries he visited, Switzerland and the United States, he said the people seemed to work the hardest.
At the other end of the scale, in France, where prices were very high and the people looked poor, they did not appear to be at all diligent.
