Jews Fail To Break Blockade
JERUSALEM, Thu. (10 a.m.).—A Jewish lorry convoy, carrying food and reinforcements to more than 1000 Jews cut off in the Jewish quarter of Olci Jerusalem, failed to break the Arab blockade, says Reuters. Bands of Arabs opened up heavy fire on the convoy from Mount Zion, while Jews on Montefiore, opposite, laid down covering fire. An Arab witness said Jews used mortars, but the convoy could not break through. Fatalities in clashes in various parts of Palestine today brought the deathroll since the partition decision to 630, including 26 British.
Two men in blue battledress walked into a Jerusalem cafe this afternoon. One fired five shots and killed a Foie sitting with a girl. The men then walked out. The Stern Gang later announced that it had “executed” Vladislav Zhidek, described as ex-gauleiter of a Polish town, who the gang alleged, was en route to Syria to train Arabs against Palestine Jews. The British knew the murdered man as Michael Klizenzun, a clerk in Allcnby Barracks. Arab guerillas, in ambushes today for taxis, buses, and lorries on the Tel Aviv-Hail'a road, killed one Jew and injured 14. Seventeen people were killed in street fighting today in Palestine main cities.
Casualties included one British constable killed and another wounded.
