! HAMILTON, Fri. (Sp.)— A century by J. Tucker 15, Ellis 11, Deane not out 10), and Waikato had 190 and 168 for six wickets declared (Aitken 53, McMahon 59, Barton 12 not out, Schroeder 17, Higginson 10). Wavell And Cricket
LONDON, Thu.—Field-Marshal Earl Wavell, at a dinner at the Buccaneers’ Cricket Club in London, referred to the remarks he made at Aberdeen about cricket being a waste of time, but in no spirit in recantation, says The Times. Lord Wavell said he believed there was a lack of proportion in test matches—they lasted too long and were too competitive.
Fifty years ago as a rich and leisured nation, Britain could afford to play these games. The last thing he would do would be to attack cricket, he added. There had been only two things in India in which Moslems and Hindus worked together—the Army and cricket.
