Italian Captain's Plea For His Ship
LONDON, Thu. (11 a.m.) —The captian of the Italian steamer Silvia Onorato, which is aground on the Goodwin Sands, is now ashore, but is anxious to return to his battered ship. When the vessel grounded in a gale it was three days before Captain Francesco Ruoeco would allow the crew to jump into the Walmer Lifeboat, which came to the rescue.
He said he did not want the lifeboat to save him—only tugs to save his ship.
Today he got within 200 yards of the vessel, but could not reach it.
Five tugs answered his daylong pleadings to go back to the ship, but they could not move her.
