Overhaul! Of Coastal Lights

WELLINGTON, Fri. (P.A.)—Many of the unwatched lights on the New Zealand coast were in need of maintenance after five years of minimum attention, said the master of the New Zealand Government vessel Matai (Captain W. R. Webling) yestei-day. The Matai has just completed the first round trip of inspection of lighthouses carried out since she was taken over by the Navy five years ago.,; Although the uixwatched lights were in good mechanical order, steel girders and towers were in many cases in need of complete overhaul, said Captain Webling. When the Matai leaves Wellington on Monday she will begin a tour of northern lighthouses to carry out complete repairs where needed. "There is a big programme of 'work ahead,” he commented.
