LORDS

LONDON —yA new scheme for reform of the House of Lords now being examined by the Government would, according* to the Daily Herald's political correspondent, abolish the hereditary right of peers to sit as legislators. Instead, the correspondent says, a number of them would be selected as members on account of their public service.

Membership would be reduced from the present 837 to about 300 and there would be more even representation of the major political parties. The Government’s attitude may be defined when Parliament reassembles.
