NO HOLIDAYS NOW Since they reopened on Monday following a holiday from Christmas Eve, Whangarei bai’ber shops have been meeting with an influx of customers. As one barber put it: “We certainly had cur holidays—there is no rest for us now.” NOT WHAT IT SEEMED A man carrying on his shoulder what appeared at a distance to be a real prize-winning deep-sea fish startled some pedestrians in Cameron Street and caused them to stop and look this morning. However, it was only a case of mistaken first sight. The man was engaged in the erection of a lifelike sign for a fish kitchen. KAITAIA STATISTICS
The upward population trend was maintained at Kaitaia during December. 1947. aeccCding to figures supplied by the registrar (Mr R.. Wright). Births registered during the month totalled 27. compared with 20 for the same month in 1946. and only one death was notified, compared with three for December the previous year. Four marriage licenses were issued, against five for the same month of the previous year.
