113 Permits For Houses in 1941
Building figures for 1947 disclose that 113 private dwellings were erected in Whangarei at a cost of £217.635. In 1946, 91 dwellings were erected of a total value of £147,237.
The average cost of homes built during 1947 was £1965/5/-, while the average cost of homes built in 1946 was £I6OO/14/-, an increase of £364/11/- per house.
Buildings other than dwellings totalled three, of a value of £4440 (11 at £25,145 in 1946).
There were 145 permits issued by the Whangarei Borough Council for alterations and additions of a total value of £40,352 (170 at £19,004). For the month of December permits of a total value of £11.103 (£11,364) were issued.
This figure was made up of six private dwellings valued at £10,510 (four at £6970). Alterations and additions totalled eight at £593 (eight at £2614). No permits were issued in December for buildings other than dwellings, but in December. 1946, one permit valued at £I7BO was issued.
