Highway Lighting
INVERCARGILL. Thu. (P.A.)—The South Island local bodies' conference today discussed remits dealing with the question of more lighting on main highways in order to minimise danger to road users and also the necessity for the Government proeeedihg with the work of completing the road in south Westland betwen the Paringa and Haast Rivers to open up country and provide a connection over the Haast Pass with Otago. A remit from the Lake Country Council suggested that the Government’s attention be directed to the | urgent necessity for making available jto the Main Highways Board and | other local authorities affected suflicii ent materials and current to facilitate j the lighting of a few dangerous sections on arterial highways throughout I the South' Island. The remit was lost, i The second remit, sponsored by the | Westland County Council, was carried.
