Ratepayers 7 Tribute To Oatmatea Councillors

PAPAROA, Thu. (Sp.).—"The fact that so many councillors have been returned unopposed can be taken as a sign that, in general, their ratepayers have been satisfied with their services.” This statement was made yesterday by the chairman of the Otamatea County Council (Mr T. H. C. Spelling), while presenting his annual report to the first meeting of the new council. Only in Matakohe riding was an election necessary and the chairman congratulated Cr N. M. McQueen upon his being returned, and extended a welcome to Cr O. L. Mooney, who, elected as second member for the riding, was taking his seat for the first time. NEW MEMBER “From my personal acquaintance with Cr Mooney I am sure his knowledeg and experience will be of great benefit to the council,” said Mr Snelling. Mr Snelling expressed appreciation on behalf of the council of the record of' service achieved by Crs Wallace and McKean. The chairman mentioned that the late Mr H. H. Sutherland, father of Mr J. J. Sutherland, returned unopposed at a by-election for Paparoa riding, had also represented Tokatoka and Paparoa ridings from 1918-25.
