Joe Louis Ready lo Defend World Title
NEW YORK, Wed. (11.30 a.m.)—Joe Louis finished training today for the defence of his world heavy-weight title on Friday night against Jersey Joe Walcott.
Walcott finished ringwork yesterday and concentrated on roadwork today. Louis expects to weigh in at noon on Friday between "212 and 2131 b., which will be the heaviest he has ever entered the ring. Walcott will be about 195, which is the highest he has ever scaled.
Louis said he did not think his weight would be too much. He considered he would be stronger at that weight. Ticket sales indicate a capacity crowd at Madison Square Garden and receipts of about $250,000, of which Louis receives 45 per cent and Walcott 15.
Louis is very hot favourite. Walcott's manager today requested that there be a different referee from Arthur Donovan because Donovan has handled most of Louis’ fights and there should be a change. Donovan has refereed 12 of Louis’ 23 title bouts.
