Westland By-Election
! GREYMOUTH. Wed. (P.A.).—Voting is taking place today in the Westland by-election. The candidates are Mr J. B. Kent (Labour) and Mr J. F. Lockington ; (National). The Hon. J: O'Brien, whose death caused the vacancy, held the seat in ! 1946 with a majority of 4716 votes. i ~ DEGREE RESULTS Two ex-pupils of the Whangarei High School who were successful in degree examinations were Rae Gribble and Margaret Hankin. Miss Gribble passed in stage 1 Zoology for her B.Sc. and Miss Hankin was successful in the Home Science Intermediate examination.
