Open Clinic For Deaf
AUCKLAND. Wed. (R.A.)—The first clinic in New Zealand for aiding hearing opened in the city this morning. under the control of the Auckland Hospital Board. Others will follow at. Hamilton, Palmerston North. Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, also in smaller towns.
Universal hearing aids. manufactured by an Auckland firm, are supplied free by the hospital as agent for the Social Security Department, and a £ls subsidy is paid to patients on any other type of aid approved by the hospital board. More than 425 applications have bean received by the board and an ordor of priority has been fixed to deal with the most necessitous cases.
The first patient today was Mr L. J. Verry. of Epsom. “I will be quite notorious,” he said.
