Pamir Making Good Progress
I WELLINGTON, Sat. (Sp.)—A ship’s j holiday was declared by the master of I the four-masted barcjue Pamir when | the ship crossed the equator on Nov- ! ember 22, and new members of the ! crew were initiated, into the rites of j King Neptune. ft now seems certain that the barque will arrive in England before Christmas. By averaging 200 miles a day the Pamir could arrive at London by December 16, or in the good time of 74 days. PASSED THE DOLDRUMS Since rounding Cape Horn on October 30 the Pamir, which is fully laden with a Carso of wool and tallow, has passed east of the Falkland Islands into the centre of the South Atlantic to pick up the south-east trade winds. Since then she has sailed north-west by north and by now should have passed through the Doldrums and picked up the north-east trade winds. These will take her 2000 miles to the centre of the North Atlantic, where she will meet the westerly winds which will take her to England. A pilot will be picked up at Dungeness and the Pamir taken up the Thames to London. Arrangements have been made for her reception.
