(12.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 17. The Ministry of Labour told the 20-year-old Yorkshire left-hander, Gerald Smithson, that he cannot leave for the West Indies with the MCC team on December 22 because his job in the mines as a "Bovin boy" does not finish until a fortnight later.
MISS N.Z. —Jacqueline Fraser 23-ycar-old sports mistress at St Hilda's College, and New Zealand university swimming champion, was selected today as Miss Otago in the Miss New Zealand quest.
