Ship's Cook Found Dead
(Special.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Discovered by a nightwatchman, the cook of the Northern Steamship Co.’s motor-vessel Tuhoe was found dead in his cabin yesterday morning. He was William Joseph Chalmers, aged 38. He was found lying on his bunk with the remains of a smouldering blanket on the floor, ft appeared that he had suffocated while he slept. KAITAIA PUBLIC CONCERT To assist in raising funds for the Kaitaia Flunked Society's (building programme, the Kaitaia Orchestral Society is holding a benefit concert next Thursday which promises to be of popular appeal. A feature of this programme will be thq appearance of several guest artists, including Mesdames D. Bell, R. V. Andrew and G. Wild, Misses Shirley Whitburn and Jean McMullen, and the Rev. J. Graham (vocalists), and Miss L. Tulloch and Mr J. S. Paulson (elocutionists). Pride of place on the orchestra programme will be given to the "Poet and Peasant” overture and a selection of Squire's songs.
