32GN AVERAGE FOR N.W. BULLS
An average realisation of nearly 32gn was recorded for 40 bulls which changed hands at the Northern Wairoa Jersey Cattle Club's annual pedigree bull sale at Aropohue. The market throughout the day maintained a buoyant tone although the first few bulls which had been offered did not evoke much interest. Once the sale was under way. bidding became keener and the catalogue of nearly 60 entries was disposed of in two hours. The best price of the day was 105gn paid by Mr W. G. Tanner (Ruawai) for Rockvale Goiden Souvenir, a fine 2-year-old from Messrs R. and C. Wilkins’ stud. This bull was by Stirling Jupiter, who has 35 daughters averaging 352 lb. fat under GHT. PASSED AT 135GN For 80gn—the second highest price —Lisburn Barometer also bred by Messrs Wilkins, went to Mr G. Jeffs (Ruawai). The champion bull of the show which preceded the sale was Mr E. K. Simons’ Sunnae King Leo, a particularly well developed yearling, whose dam Mohao Cleo did more than 500 lb. fat at 12 years. This bull was passed in at 135gn. Of the total entry, 17 sales were made at more than 30gn, seven of them being at 50gn or more.
The auctioneers were the North Auckland Farmers’ Coop. Ltd. and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd.
