Kaikohe Beef Bull Sale

The Kaikohe annual beef bull sale, conducted by the North Auckland Farmers’ Coop. Ltd, Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd, Dalgety and Co. Ltd, and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd, drew a good attendance of buyers. The offering comprised 65 bulls and approximately 50 of them changed hands. Many of the bulls showed the effects of the previous unfavourable season and were low in condition. Good quality bulls in proper sale condition made satisfactory prices but others of inferior quality and condition were not wanted. Mr H. Kay, of Motatau, topped the market with 80gn for a nicely put together 2-year Polled Angus single entry bull and he also obtained the second best price of GOgn for a 5-year stud bull. Both of these animals were purchased by Mr W. A. McDonald, Houtu. Grade bulls offered by Mr Kay were keenly sought throughout and sold from 40 to 56gn. Other sales were: Polled Angus bulls. 30 to 42gn; Polled Angus bulls in light condition and of inferior quality, 12 to 25gn: 2-year Polled Hereford bulls, 12 to 25gn; 2-ycar horned Hereford bulls, 3 to 16gn.
