NEWS OF THE DAY
WHANGAREI BARBARIANS Two Whangarei footballers stepped out at Takapuna today as members of the Barbarians Rugby team in a match against a North Shore side. They were Ted Griffin, noted coach and junior selector, and Wally Cooper, ex-Mango-nui, Northland and Maori All Black forward. Griffin played' for the Barbarians against the Whangarei representatives last Saturday, and Cooper was an emergency. A third Whangarei forward was to have worn the red jersey, but owing to a recurrence of an old knee injury, was unable to do so. He was Bob Armitage, who is sports master at the Whangarei Boys’ High School. Armitage was included in the team against Whangarei, but had to withdraw. He is an old Auckland representative. Griffin played for Hawke’s Bay and Wellington in his heyday and was a forward of All Black class. Strangely enough, he was never ehosen for Northland and had to go south to gain recognition.
Ladies will appreciate the charming new spring and summer two-piece suits, frocks and coats now opening out at Henry Wilson’s. The prices are strikingly low for such smart vogues of individuality and charm. Inspection cordially invited. v/\vl
