STERN GANG PLOT TO BOMB LONDON
UNCOVERED IN FRANCE...
(New Zealand Press Assn— Reuters—Copyright) (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 7. A JEWISH plan to bomb London as a reprisal for the return to Germany of the illegal immigrants from the ship President Warfield has been uncovered in France. The Stern Gang is believed to be behind the plot. Seventeen arrests have already been made. Six home-made aerial bombs made from fire extinguishers have been seized. ..These bombs were about 20in. long and had fins and fuses.
Among those arrested are Rabbi Baruch Korff, former chairman of the Political Action Committee for Palestine, the pilot, Reginald Gilbert, and Mrs Judith Rosenbeyer, who is Rabbi Korff’s secretary. Rabbi Korff is an American citizen, born in Russia, Gilbert is an American citizen, born in Birmingham, England and Mrs Rosenbeyer is of Hungarian origin, although fler present nationality is unknown. These three were arrested at an airport near Versailles. Police discovered in the car in which they arrived at the airport two suitcases containing 10,000 pamphlets,
printed in English, apparently by a French printer. No bombs were found in the plane. Police believed that the flight over London was intended to be one of intimidation, and that further flights had been planned for actually dropping bombs. A police search of the living quarters of those arrested has led to rapid progress in the investigations. They found, documents which provided valuable clues.
Rabbi Korff had approached the acting Foreign Minister (M. Jean le Tourneau) several days ago with a plan to use a French airport as a base for parachuting Jews into Palestine. M. le Tourneau refused the request.
