Country Work For Whangarei Dist. Nurse

As the Whangarei district nurse (Miss M. G. MacKintosh) was not fully employed in the borough, the medical officer of health (Dr J. L. Newman) suggested to the Whangarei Hospital Board that she be allowed to work in the surrounding districts as well.

Mr W. Jones said that to visit a patient in the borough the nurse must first obtain permission of a doctor, but in the country she could visit a patient on her ov/n judgment. The board decided to allow the nurse to visit patients outside the borough. The house committee is to be asked to consider an alteration in conditions to allow the nurse the same freedom in the borough as in the country.
