Replacing Sydney Slums
SYDNEY, This Day
The first important step under the State Government's housing policy to acquire and demolish Sydneys substandard dwellings was made when the Minister of Housing (Mr Clive Evatt) signed resumption notices making the State Government owner of houses and land in the suburb of Redfern.
He said that he was arranging temporary accommodation for the people concerned, and had called tenders for the erection of 72 modern brick flats in the nearby suburb of ErskineviUe.
