Britain, France Two Days From War With Russia?
(Received 1.30 p.m.) STOCKHOLM, September 5. DOCUMENTS quoted in an official Swedish White Paper assert that Britain and France were within 48 hours of attacking The documents purported to show that if the Russo-Finnish war had continued after March 15, 1940, Britain and France would have sent an initial force of 50,000 troops thiough Northern Norway to Finland, but cancelled plans when Finland and Russia signed the peace on March 13, 1940. The White Paper said the Swedish Consul-General in Paris on March 2, 1940, brought King Gustav a message from the French Premier (M. Daladier) stating that the troop shipment offered to Finland was part of a plan for a general offensive to be launched against Russia in the Baku area on March 10, IJ4O.
