Federation Asking Baxter To Explain
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Federation of Labour intends to get into touch with its secretary, Mr K. Baxter, now in Melbourne attending the meeting of the Australian Council of Trade Unions, to learn the text of remarks he is reported to have made in connection with New Zealand’s 40-hour five-day week. “The statement purported to have been made by Mr Baxter,” says the federation, “does not appear to be in line with the policy and opinion of the federation.”
