Informal Votes For Whangarei Dairy Co

Many informal votes are being cast in the postal ballot being conducted by the Whangarci Coop. Dairy Co. Ltd to fill three vacancies on the board of directors.

The five aspirant; for the three vacancies include the directors who retire by rotation as provided in the company’s Articles of Association. They are Mr E. S. Tremaine, the present chairman of the company-, and Mr R. D. Finlayson, a director.

The other nominees comprise Mr T. G. M. Lee. of Parua Bay. Mr H. A. Powell, of Taipuha, and Mr J Stephen, ot Waikiekie.

An official of the company stated today that many of the envelopes containing the voting papers so far received would not be opened as they were informal through not being signed on the back.

The requirement of the signature on the back of the envelopes was to ensure that none but duly qualified shareholders took part in the ballot, as the envelopes were checked against the company's share registers prior 10 the count.

In no case could the actual voting paper be viewed or examined, as the envelopes were opened in the presence of the scrutineers appointed at the annual general meeting of shareholders, the folded voting papers dumped on the counting table and the actual envelope discarded.

Thus, the secret of the ballot was strictly maintained and the actual declaration of the result was not made, by the returning officer until the count ■had been checked by the scrutineers and signed by them as correct.
