Britain will be able to overcome her financial difficulties if all the people of the Commonwealth throw in their weight with her. as AID TO BRITAIN they did dewing
the war. Her trading balances, upset during the war years, will have to be restored before Britain can resume her pre-war position.
If the trades unions in New Zealand called a conference to discuss how best they could aid Britain it would be a very wise action. If everybody, from the wealthiest people down to <he humblest workers, would agree to give to the utmost of their capacity, in the shape of longer working hours and subscriptions to an Aid for Britain Fund until the crisis has been passed, I believe the trouble would be ended in a very short time. • The ministers of the various churches should bring the matter before their congregations, whose members I am sure would rise to the occasion.
What the Commonwealth could do to help the Motherland will be appreciated when the millions of people constituting the different British countries are taken into account. While an individual of the Commonwealth may be able to make only a modest contribution, the aggregate help in work and money would be tremendous, and Britain, upon whose prosperity we all depend, wherever we may be living, would be enabled again to lead in the task of building goodwill and peace.—J.
