No Withdrawal Of Australian Notes
(Rec. 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Prime Minister (Mr Chifley) has denied that the Government contemplated withdrawing the present bank notes and issuing new ones to combat blackmarket hoarding. Retail traders in Sydney have denied an evening newspaper report that blackmarketeers this week unloaded their hidden wealth in a wild orgy of spending on luxury goods. A Commonwealth Bank officer said that the bank had no evidence of any extraordinary rush to buy savings certificates or Government bonds.
