Plane Ban Criticised
The reported refusal of the RAAF to service Dutch planes at Brisbane demanded immediate official explanation, said the leader of the Country Party (Mr Fadden)
'•Unless the Government acts at once to remove the ban on planes it can hardly complain if the Dutch at Sourabaya similarly refuse to service the Australian Government-owned planes of Qantas Airways, thus, in effect, suspending the Australia-England air service,” he said.
“If this ban has not the approval of the Chifley Government it seems as though the RAAF is receiving its instructions from the Australasian Council of Trade Unions and is obeying the dictates of a body v/hich is completely unofficial.
“There can be no justification for official silence on a matter which concerns two important nations, and any attempt at hush-hush will not be acceptable. Mr Chifley should make it clear whether his Government or the trade union council is the real ruler of the Australian people today.”
