Otago Beaten On East Coast
(Special) GISBORNE, This Day. The Ranfurly Shield holder. Otago, was decisively beaten by the combined Poverty Bay-East Coast representatives by 20 points to 8 yesterday. The issue rested largely upon the respective packs, and Otago put up a good showing in the first half, which closed with the score 3 —o in favour of the combined team. The home forwards dominated the second half and spent the best part of the last quarter hammering the Otago tine.
Towards the close the issue was far beyond doubt, the home team being full of sting, while Otago lacked the condition to develop obvious openings. Since playing their last match Otago had sent home one or two of their stars. J. C. Kearney, in particular, was missed.
