Big Claim Against War Assets Board

(Special.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A reference to the claim for alleged breach of contract facing the War Assets Realisation Board as the result of a discovery that only about 9000 tons of scrap steel could be supplied from a dump at Woburn following negotiations to supply an American corporation with 45.000 tons, was made by Mr C. M. Bowden (O—Karori) in his speech in the Budget debate in the House of Representatives last night. Mr Bowden said he was told that the claim for loss of profits alone was £200,000.

Seven ships were engaged to come to New Zealand, said Mr Bowden. Three came here and one was loaded. The report of the Controller and Auditor-General, from which Mr Bowden quoted the case, states that the claim against the board arises from alleged loss of profits, costs incurred and damages payable by the corporation to purchasers from it.
