independence Day Deaths Now 53
(Rec. 2.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 4. Fifty-three violent deaths occurred in the United States to 6'p.m. today during the celebration of the official anniversary of the signing of the American Declaration of Independence. Thirty were killed in road traffic accidents, 13 drowned and 10 died through miscellaneous causes, of whom seven were in light plane crashes. Typical of the latter was a tragedy in New Jersey, a rented plane in which a salesman was giving his two youngchildren a ride as a holiday treat, crashed, killing all three.
