Activity At Winter Show Building
Amid a jumble of timber, sawdust, plane shavings and other rubble, workmen are hard at work preparing the Whangarei Winter Show building for the Winter Exhibition which opens on Tuesday next. Auxiliary lighting for the stalls was being installed tins morning by the Electrical Department of the Whangarei Borough Council, while work on many stalls was still in progress.
Models for the model section have arrived from all parts of New Zealand, but have not yet been unpacked. On Sunday a special truckload of models arrived from Auckland. One of the two Air Training Corps exhibits, a Bristol Pegasus aero engine, is already in place and one of the cadets was busy cleaning and polishing it this morning. Forty-six bason carcases. from Warkworth to Awanui, will be exhibited in the Northland Bacon Pig championship, which will fce of a high standard although there will not be so many entries as in previous years. A feature of the show will be a unique exhibit by a refrigeration firm which has secured the services of an advertising specialist from the United States. The ex'libit is still on the “hush-hush” list but promises to be typically American. Outside the show building the sideshow area is fully booked. Besides the sideshows there will be five different kinds of roundabouts. ! The executive committee of the A. .• and P. Society expressed regret that, bcause of unforeseen circumstances, there will be no official opening of the exhibition as in previous years.
