Bread Ration In British Zone Lowest Ever
(Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 15. THE authorities told 11,000,000 Germans in the British zone that the bread ration this week would be limited to one 32-ounce loaf of maize bread, says the Daily Express Dusseldorf correspondent.
This is the lowest bread ration ever issued—looo grammes against last week's 1500.
Nothing but bread is issued in country districts surrounding the Ruhr.
The Germans there have to try to live the best they can on what they can buy in the black market or get from friendly farmers. A senior British official said all normal precautions had been taken against outbreaks.
In many cases fat, fish, sugar and meat portions of ration cards will not be honoured.
The Ruhr is on the eve of its worst food crisis.
