Mongakahia Road Being Washed Away
Wet weather during the week-end has caused about 25ft of road on the main highway at the north end of the Mangakahia Gorge to begin slipping away.
Although requests have been made to have the road, which is in the Bay of Islands county, repaired, nothing has yet been done, and a Whangarei bus company which uses the road may have to suspend services over it unless its condition is improved in the immediate future.
The Bay of Islands County Council engineer (Mr S. B. Clifford) stated today that a contractor will shortly undertake repair work.
