Montgomery's Visit To N.Z.
i p.A.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Announcing the itinerary lor the New Zealand visit of Field Marshal Lord Montgomery the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) said the Chief of the Imperial General Staff, while in Wellington will have discussions with the Government, the chiefs of staff, and later the army authorities at Army headquarters. Lord Montgomery will arrive at Ohakea on the afternoon of Wednesday July 16. and leave from Whenuapai at the conclusion of the tour on July 31. The engagements include a .number of visits to disabled servicemen’s institutions, and meetings with returned men in various parts of the country.
Lord Montgomery will motor to Wellington, where he will stay at Government House.
Wellington engagements on Thursday July 17, will include a Press conference at Government House, a call on the Prime Minister, and discussions with the Government, State luncheon. and then discussions with the chiefs of staff.
On July It) he/will visit the Trentharn military camp, attend a civic reception in Wellington, visit the disabled servicemen’s training centre and attend a services reception.
Lord Montgomery will leave Wellington on July 19 by air for Invercargill. Visits will subsequently be paid to Dunedin, Oamaru, Timaru, Christchurch, Westport, Hokitika, Greymouth, Nelson, Blenheim, New Plymouth, Ohakea, Wanganui, Palmerston North. Napier, Hastings, Gisborne, Rotorua, Hamilton and Auckland. Lord ’ Montgomery will leave 'Whenuapai for Australia on Thursday July 31.
