Two N.Z. Records At Kaitaia Jersey Sale

TWO New Zealand records for this year’s pedigree Jersey sales were set at Kaitaia yesterday.

A rising two-year-old heifer of Mr T. Maugham’s Takeke stud was sold for 350gns and the 14 head from this stud made the phenomenal average of 114gns.

These realisations were recorded at a combined sale of the Takeke stud and Mr G. J. Irvine’s Rathmore stud.

The Takeke stud made Dominion records two years ago when Australian breeders attended the sale, paying high figures for both cows and heil'ers.

Reports received recently from their owners in Melbourne and Tasmania indicated that the cattle were doing -yell, although drought conditions haa un adverse effect on production figures. ' The 350gn. heifer was Takeke Lady Ability, purchased by Mr H. A. Ivladilf, Tuakau.

She was by Sensation of Pencairow. sire of the 475gu. Pamapuria Quality, v.h.c., 548.331 b fat in 305 days; Pamapuria Daydream, v.h.c., c.0.r., 477.761 b fat in 305 days; Pamapuria Blue Lady, v.h.c., c.0.r., 5371 b fat in 305 days at three years; Pamapuria Oxford Lady, v.h.c., 0.h.t., 4801 b fat; Pamapuria Lady Olive, h-c., 439.571 b fat in 305 days at three years.

Her dam was Pamapuria Lady Polly, h.c., g.h.t., 3811 b fat in 282 days. A full sister to Pamapuria Blue Lady, purchased earlier in the day by Madame de Guise Roussel for 425gn., this outstanding heifer was in calf to Pamapuria Twylish. Ihc seven-year-old Pamapuria Blue Lady, v.h.c., top-priced cow at Northland sales this season, was the highestpointed animal in tile province in her ypar. With a total of 904, she gained 144 out of the possible 16 for her udder.

She is the dam of Takeke Marshal Stalin, a prize winner in the Waikatd, and also of Takeke Lady Blue, 0.h.t., 4771 b fat in 305 days at three years. Blue Lady’s maternal great-grand-dam, Fenearrow Polly, was by Fancy Carnation's Fox (imp.), - tracing back to Busybody, by Cicero 111. from Beauty Ilf. For lSOgir. Messrs Finlay Bros. (Rotorua) purchased the rising two-year-old heifer Takeke Lady Sillis, by Pamapuria Goal Post, sire of Takeke Stylish Ruth, 0.h.t., 4361 b fat. His first daughter at stud produced Rathmore Dreamer, v.h.c. Lady Sillis’ dam was Pamapuria Oxford Lady, v.h.c., tracing back to Winning Post (imp.) and Daisy M.O. (imp.). Another high-priced heifer was Takeke Iris, bought for ICOgn. bv Mr J. Vinac (Lake Oliia). Iris was by Pioneer’s Oxford Noble. directly descended from Lady Ruth. Her darn was Takeke Gay Lass, v.h.c., 0.h.t., 6031 b fat in 305 days. The highest-priced bull was Takeke Last Link, for which Messrs H. Geek and Sons, Te Kauwata, paid 120gn. This yearling was a full brother lo Blue Lady, being by Sensation of Pencarrow out of Pamapuria Lady Polly, h.c., 3611 b fat under group testThe 10 yearling bulls which changed hands realised an average price of 624 guineas. Two hundred guineas was the average for the three two-year-old in-calf heifers.
