All Must Agree On Berlin Officials
(Rec. 1 p.m.) BERLIN. June 13. The Allied Control Council has decided to permit any of the four powers in Berlin to veto the appointment of any elected Berlin officials. The United States Military Governor (General Clay) said the veto was necessary to ensure that no official was permitted to take office who diametrically opposed the principles of any of the occupation powers.
Some Allied and German officials 'predict that this will make it impossible to continue a democratic government since, theoretically, the Russians, who put the plan forward, can now block every non-Communist candidate and thus invalidate any election that goes against them. 2D,-.:
