(Special) nu’CKLAND This Day. u properly represented, the dispute involving me Auckland VvAiterside Workers Union could nave been settled without tne cessation of overtime work, said the Aucxland branch manager or tne Watertront industry Commission (Mr W. J. Cuthoert) in announcing tnat tne watersiders would resume overtime work on N.Z. snipping Co. vessels. No overtime would be worked until three members’ claims totalling £2/5 - had . been met, stated the union on Thursday. Employers’, representatives on the port committee- had agreed to pay the claim, said Mr Cuthbert. “The claim was originally lodged against Leonard and Dingley, Ltd., employers of labour on the phosphate steamer Levenpcol,” said Mr Cuthbert. “As such, the claim on this linn could not be sustained. "Tne first intonation the commission had of the union’s intention to claim against the New Zealand Shipping Co was when the union passed its resolution at the slopwork meeting *;n Thursday. , j "Had the original dispute been j lodged against the New Zealand Ship- 1 ping Co. and the facts as now known had been correctly represented by the union, it would possibly have had aj bearing on the immedite settlement of the dispute.
