Northland Talent Equals Auckland's
Opportunities for judging the standard of Northland amateur stage talent against that of Auckland was given in the Whangarei Town Hall last night when Neville Carlsen and his revue company presented a programme.
With the recent Northland talent quest still fresh in mind, it was easy for the packed house to make a comparison with the entertainment offered by the visitors, and Northland did not suffer.
Guest artist with the company was Jeanette de Montalk, who was unplaced in the junior section of the quest despite her ability, and it did not need parochial leanings to place her among the best of the visiting entertainers. Four of the visitors outshone the others. '
Lyndon Peoples, who has a rich baritone voice which he spoiled by hurry, was easily the best of the singers and his return in the second half would have been appreciated. Cyril Hardy was almost a show in himself with a variety of acts in which his balancing, pattern making and shadography (imagery with hands against a lighted screen) were outstanding. A young magician, Claude Sloane, presented a clever session with cubes, cards and handkerchiefs while Noreen Taylor’s tap dancing was excellent.
