Apprenticeship Groups
(Special) WELLINGTON, This Day. Reduction of apprenticeship groups from 37 to 17 has • been proposed to the annual conference of the Federation of Labour. A meeting had been held with representatives of the federation, employers, the Labour Department and the Apprenticeship Commissioner (Mr W. McQueen) at t which proposals had been made for the grouping of trades for apprenticeship purposes, the conference was told.
The. proposed grouping of trades is: Baking, boilermaking, blacksmithing. cycle working, engineering moulding, wire working and tinsmithing, motor i engineering, bootmaking and repairing. coach working, clothing, fur working, hatmaking and tailoring, dentistry, electrical working, hair- : dressing, furniture working, leadlight and wicker working, jewellery working, printing and photo engraving, i saddlery, sail and tent making, boatbuilding, sarpentry and coopering, bricklaying, masonry, plastering and ■ tile making, plumbing, gasfitting and lead burning, painting and miscel- , laneous. ' The question was referred to the i incoming national executive.
