Broken Roil Caused Accident
(From Our Special Correspondent) WELLINGTON, This Day. Railway Department engineers who investigated the derailment of the special J Force train at Hihatahi, found that it was due to a broken rail, which is a most unusual fault. They expect the Main Trunk line to be cleared for through traffic tomorrow. The replacement of the six derailed cars is a fairly lengthy operation.
J Force Leave
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day “Arrangements have been completed for 223 members of J Force who have volunteered for a further period of service in Japan to have leave in New Zealand.” said the Minister of Defence (Mr Jones) yesterday.
“Cf this number 17 are already in New Zealand, having returned by air and the remaining 206. who include 14 members of the women's services will be returning in the first draft from Japan. All these leave personnel will have at least one month in New Zealand before returning lo Japan.”
