Chinese Reds In Big Attack
(Rec. 10 a.m.) NANKING, June 3. Six full Communist divisions, under General Wan Yi, are attacking the Nationalist defenders of the three key cities of the Changchun-Mukden railway, despatches published today report.
The despatches indicate that matters are going badly for the Government at Changtu, Szepingkai and Kaiyuan.
Reports from Mukden say 20,000 fresh Communist troops mqved into the offensive against Changtu. The newspaper Hsin Min Pao reports that the Communists occupied Wafangkai on the Liaotung Peninsula. The army newspaper Peace Daily reports that a Nationalist volunteer army of 15,000 captured Hulan. 20 miles north of Harbin, the big Communist base in Northern Manchuria, preparatory to striking against Harbin itself.
If this report is confirmed it will represent the first indication of substantial Government guerilla units operating within Communist territory.
