Scow Haere Overdue
The auxiliary scow Haere, which left Parongarenga Harbour last Wednesday for Auckland with a cargo of sand is now five days overdue. A RNZAF Catalina yesterday searched the northern coastline, but saw no sign of the scow. On board are Captain V. Sayers, Mr D. Naimie (engineer), Messrs J. Sharps and R. Brandon (able seamen) and Mr H. Mataira (ordinary seaman).
The scow Ngahau, which left Parengarenga on Friday, reached Auckland on Sunday and reported that a hard west-north-west gale, with thick weather, was experienced on Wednesday night after the departure of the Haere.
SEARCH BY SEA A wireless warning has been sent to all ships to look out for the Haere and a naval launch from Auckland left today to search the Great Barrier Island coast. Her*owners, Messrs Parry Brothers, have sent their launch to search all coastal islands, while a launch left to search the Cavalli Islands and Cape Karikari at the north entrance to Doubtless Bay.
The Haere was in New Guinea’ waters during World War II and was bought by Parry Brothers in 1945.
Since then she has traded between Auckland and Portland or Parangarenga.
She carries a full set of sails and is powered by two Diesel motors.
Alone In Spirits' Bay ?

AUCKLAND, This Day
Believed to be the 27ft American yawl Alone, now overdue from Suva, a boat was sighted in Spirits Bay, near Cape Reinga, by an aircraft yesterday.
The aircraft, bound from Norfolk Island to Auckland, had been asked to keep a look-out for the Alone, wlv'ch left Suva for Auckland on May 2 in the course of a world lour. The Royal Akarana Yacht Club, which has been advised of the yacht’s presence, has no knowledge of any other small vessels likely to be in the vicinity.
