Wanganui Beats Taranaki At Rugby

(P.A.) WANGANUI. This Day. For the first time in 10 years Wanganui beat Taranaki on the Rugby this morning, when the teams met in the annual King’s Day fixture.

Although Taranaki attacked for the last three-quarters of the game. Wanganui held fast to a lead established in the early stages and won by 14 points to 6.

Wanganui seized the initiative from the start and put on a double figure score before Taranaki settled down.

Wanganui’s ■ hooker was largely responsible for the early success, but he was overshadowed throughout the rest of the game and Wanganui’s backs saw the ball only when they fielded it. Taranaki backs gave an amazing display, turning everything into attack and always feeding the wings, hut the defence nearly always held.
