King's Birthday Sport in ideal Conditions
PERFECT weather throughout Northland favoured sportsmen today for the annual King s Birthday fixture's. Football, hockey, basketball, golf, racing and shooting all attracted their share of followers. Th« greatest magnet were the seven-a-side Rugby tournaments and the first representative match of the season at Kaitaia between Mangonui and North Ilokianga.
At Whangarei, the Rugby Unions annual seven-aside competitions drew splendid entries in all grades and m the beautiful sunshine, a large crowd enjoyed the fare. The Northland Rugby League staged itsesevon-a-sido show at Jubilee Park thir, afternoon.
Kensington Park was a busy scene with four grades of hockey matehcbeing played continuously. Visitors from Auckland and Dargavillc gave this event added interest.
The chief golfing item was the Black and White Cup competition at Mt. Dcnby which brought forth good entries.
Sportsmen with gun and dog wrr out in an effort to amend for man previous failures this season.
